Since the end of 2019, Burundian refugees, who fled their homeland due to violence and instability, have faced severe human rights violations in refugee camps in Tanzania. The situation is even more concerning following the ultimatum from the Tanzanian government demanding the forced repatriation of Burundian refugees by December 2024, in blatant violation of the principle of non-refoulement. Sending thousands of people back to Burundi, where they risk persecution, contravenes international law standards and endangers innocent lives.
